South Africa Prayer letter ( 12/2016 )
Dear Prayer Partners,
Due to the departure of CEM’s missionary in Cape Town by the end of this year, we have decided to support the ministry by making monthly visits there from Durban. We thank God for his providence. When we visited Cape Town in November and early December, we were able to secure a room with a reasonable monthly rate in a safe residential area near the church. We will be able to park our car (left by our missionary) behind a locked gate. It is also close to supermarkets and shops. Most important of all, the city bus travels through this area, and we only need to make two exchanges to get to our place from the airport. It is extremely convenient as we can come and go ourselves without the trouble of arranging rides and worrying about being stuck in traffic while traveling to and from the airport.
There are a few brothers and sisters in the Cape Town church that we know from Port Elizabeth. We had a great time catching up and getting reacquainted. We also met a sister who is in the WeChat group that Ko-Ta teaches. She and her husband received us with great hospitality. They told us that they would be moving to the college town Stellenbosch in the middle of next year. It is about a 40-minute drive from Cape Town. They also told us that there are quite a number of Chinese merchants and students in Stellenbosch, and they were excited about the possibility of our working together for evangelization outreach. May the Lord lead us to His harvest!
We were also able to meet up with a family from Newcastle in December. Because they live far away from where the church is located and cannot arrange for transportation, they were unable to attend church. They also made the request for us to have a Bible study or fellowship meeting in their area whenever we visit Cape Town.
We thank God for brothers and sisters who are willing to make extra offering for this ministry. May the Lord remember their giving from their hearts! May His will be done and lead us in these different ministry possibilities.
To accommodate the addition ministry in Cape Town, we will need to rearrange our schedule. Starting 2017, the meeting frequency in most of our existing ministry locations will be decreased. We will readjust after six months as the situation in Cape Town takes shape. Please pray that any disruption will be kept to a minimum.
Although many Chinese left for their home countries during the holiday, there were still over 50 people at our Christmas worship. In addition to the choir’s special praises, there were thanksgiving testimonies and children’s worship dance. The children’s worship dance was especially well received. Everyone’s spirit was lifted, and God’s name was highly exalted! Thanks to the coordination and preparation of our brothers and sisters, everyone enjoyed a great feast after the worship. May the Lord remember their loving service in unity! Please pray for the non-believers that joined us at the worship. May the Christmas message they heard and the Christian testimonies they witnessed open their hearts to seek the Lord!
Prayer Requests:
1. Please pray for the new ministry in Cape Town. May the Lord help us get to know the brothers and sisters quickly and be able to meet their need.
2. May the Lord lead us in different ministry opportunities and start them at the right time.
3. May the Lord strengthen all existing ministries that the rearrangements will not have any adverse effect.
4. Please pray for wisdom in following up with non-believers who attended our Christmas worship.
5. Please continue to pray for our safety as we travel to different cities and towns.
In His service,
Ko-Ta & Christina
