Dear Prayer Partners,

We thank God for giving us much needed rain in Cape Town.  The dams are only around 40% full, so the water restriction of 50 liters/person/day is still in place.  May the Lord continue to send rain for the rest of the season!  Before weather changes and natural disasters, people appear to be so insignificant and powerless.  We need to turn to our Creator, the Almighty God, for help.

Sister XiaoQin’s husband grew up in a Christian family.  He came to South Africa to join his parents in his early teens.  However, God and religion were not important to him.  XiaoQin married into his family and started to come to our Durban church with her mother-in-law.  Soon after, she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized.  She was eager to learn and growing strong in her faith.  However, she was not able to conceive.  Even though her in-laws did not give her any pressure, seeing her friends becoming pregnant one after another made her feel discouraged.  We prayed with her and shared with her many testimonies of sisters in similar situations.  Praise the Lord, she experienced God’s miracle and is now the proud mother of two healthy boys.  She constantly witnesses to her husband on how God works in her life and prays for his salvation.  He slowly sees that God is real and is willing to pray with her.  Last Christmas, he even accompanied her to our Christmas worship service.

Two weeks ago we were ministering in another city.  One early morning we received an urgent message from XiaoQin asking us to pray for her husband.  He owns a security company and carries his gun all the time.  Somehow the gun accidentally fired and the bullet went into his leg.  If it hit his knee, there would be serious consequences.  After he got to the hospital, the x-ray showed that the bullet made a 90 degree turn, bypassed the knee and lodged itself between the bones.  The doctor and all the medical staff at the hospital were amazed at the miracle.  He personally experienced God’s protection!

God worked miracles in days of old; God works miracles nowadays.  God works miracles in South Africa; God works miracles where you are.  We believe that God continues to work miracles in our lives.  May we all proclaim His wonderful deeds among men!  XiaoQin’s husband’s faith was built on her faith, life testimonies and prayers.  We also need to pray for our spouse and help him/her to grow spiritually.

When we first started to serve in Cape Town, we came in touch with a missionary in Zambia through an acquaintance in Hong Kong.  The missionary contacted us because one of his church members was coming to Cape Town to study.  That was how Sister Zheng came to our Cape Town church.  The family was brought to church by her father’s good friend, and the whole family came to know Christ.  She would not miss any opportunity to attend church meetings, and she grows in faith and knowledge of the Lord.  She will be finishing her study next week and returning to Zambia.

As missionaries, we see people come and go.  We serve them at a certain stop in their lives.  Sometimes we lead people to Christ; sometimes we walk with them through a difficult journey; sometimes we give them help asking nothing in return.  Our goal is to point people to God.  It is such a humbling yet holy mission.  Every encounter is worthwhile!  Would you be willing to answer God’s call to go to the deep water and become fishers of men?

Prayer Requests:

  1. Please pray for more missionaries to South Africa.
  2. Please pray for the three churches we serve and the co-workers in the churches. May God grant them faith, love and patience in their service.
  3. Please pray for continued rainfall in Cape Town.
  4. Please pray for the salvation of Ms. Liu. Her husband had no objection before on her coming to church.  However, a few weeks ago he brought an idol home and now refuses to let her come.
  5. Please continue to pray for our safety as we travel to different cities and towns.

In His service,
Ko-Ta & Christina
