Kytgzstan – John & Chrisita Tsai Prayer Letter 2015/6-8

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.  2Cor 4:16-18

Update & Give Thanks

In June the weather is turning very hot. We depend on well water for our washing and watering the trees. The well starts to run dry. Water problem has been a major issue for us here. Checking with the locals we found out this year the water level dropped about 2 meters in Tokmok! After struggling for one week at a cost of $800 we dug another well of 15 meters deep in order to get good water. Every year we faced with never ending water, electricity and heating problems

In early July we have one week of summer camp in the kindergarten. We hope to use this opportunity to know more neighborhood children and also to get our name out. It was very tiring for our workers but rewarding. The children really had fun.  A few of the children ended up joining our kindergarten now.

Many of our missionary friends came to visit in the summer bringing with them love and support for our ministry. Even though they stayed only one or two days, they brought with them the needed comfort and encouragement. They made our work here more bearable.

July 17, the last day of Ramadan we decided to have a one day core worker retreat in the mountains to plan our next school year. We left Tokmok on the evening of the 16th. Following morning after breakfast Christa suddenly felt nauseated and started throwing up. We tried to let her rest in the room. But after two hours she still did not feel better. Thinking that she may have high mountain sickness we decided to come down to lower altitude. For the following week she still did not get better. Finally she was diagnosed with minor stroke by the local doctor. The medical facility in Kyrgyzstan is backward and we decided to travel to Taiwan for treatment. Afraid of aggravating her stroke by traveling we waited two more weeks before flying. In the meantime we tried to control her blood pressure, blood sugar, Cholesterol and Triglyceride by careful diet. Aug 7 we arrived Taiwan early morning just before the major typhoon Soudelor hit. In the following three weeks doctors confirmed Christa’s stroke. Their only recommendation is diet control and rest to slowly bring back her health. Currently she still has headaches, ear discomfort as if filled with water, weak right arm and leg.

With the crude oil price down so much, many countries that depend on Russia economy are severely affected. Ruble dropped 50% and so did Kyrgyzstan currency. Some of one million Kyrgyz workers in Russia can no longer find work and have to come back. There are no jobs for them here. Burglary and robbery rate increased. While we were in Taiwan getting medical checkup our home was burglarized. They turned our home completely upside down. We heard that in just one and half months there were over 30 burglaries in Tokmok. Please pray God protect us and give us peace of mind.

Prayer Requests

  5. Pray for other staff, our children and their families.
  6. May God bless all that are obedient to Him.
