Dear Prayer Partners,

After a few months in Cape Town, we realize that there is a great need among Chinese young adults.  In addition, the second generation of the Chinese Christians in South Africa finds it hard to have a sense of belonging in their parents’ churches.  As they become independent adults, they slowly disappear from the church.  Last Sunday, one sister lamented about her daughter’s (a 30-something Chinese who grew up in South Africa) search for help in her life.  She tried Yoga; she had counseling sessions with a psychologist; she even attended a local church a couple times.  She is still as lost as before!

In a broader sense, the young Chinese community is an unreached group.  They need someone to lead them to Christ and join together to be a dynamic group with a clear life purpose and positive influence in their community—being witnesses of Jesus Christ by living out the Word of life.  In addition to University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University nearby is also one of the top picks for tertiary education in the Chinese community.  There are also a great number of international students from Asia.  The bilingual second generation Chinese is ripe for harvest.  Where are God’s workers?

Praise God!  This week we held our first Bible study meeting in Stellenbosch (40-minute drive from Cape Town).  We posted flyers in the student center and visited some Chinese shop owners on the town’s main street.  Currently, we meet in the home of a Chinese Christian couple.  We thank God for His providence.  May the Lord bless them and equip them to be His faithful mighty warriors.  Please pray for our visitations and give us wisdom in leading the group as well as finding a permanent venue for future meetings.

Sister Fan was baptized on Easter Sunday.  She grew up in China and was taught the philosophy of materialism (physical matter is the whole of reality).  Yet she had some unusual encounters that made her aware of the existence of the spiritual world.  Due to her employment in South Africa, she had the chance to come to know Christianity and understand the gospel.  After she accepted Christ and decided to be baptized, she experienced great spiritual struggles.  Christ won!  She will be returning to China soon.  Please pray for her finding a suitable church back home and her continued growth in faith.

There are a few brothers and sisters who have potentials to be leaders to serve in the church.  We started a leaders training program for them two months ago.  We thank God for their efforts in completing their homework, thoughtful learning and discussions.  May the Lord help them find enough time to study and grant them insight to understand His heart for faithful servants.

Prayer Requests:

  1. May the Lord help us in building a good rapport with the young adults in the Cape Town church and lead us in starting a Chinese young adult ministry.
  2. May the Lord guide us in the new outreach ministry in Stellenbosch.
  3. Please pray for Sister Fan’s continued growth in faith.
  4. Please pray for the two newcomers who attended our special outreach meeting on Good Friday. May the Holy Spirit continue to work in their hearts to seek God’s salvation.
  5. Please continue to pray for our safety as we travel to different cities and towns.

In His service,
Ko-Ta & Christina
