Dear Prayer Partners,

Sister Huang had her own business in South Africa before but had moved back to Taiwan years ago. This year, she and her husband decided to move back and spend their retirement years in South Africa. Mr. Huang is a well-educated and well-mannered gentleman.  He was in the chemical engineering field and was a successful businessman.  He is very knowledgeable, and one can learn so much from talking with him.  He had been accompanying his wife to church for years.  His purpose is to feel the peacefulness in church and to hear some life philosophy.  He said that he has no objection toward Christianity, but his mind does not seem to be in sync with God’s frequency.  However, we notice that he is very attentive and will read beyond the sermon passage to try to understand the message.  He also told us that he used to spend time chatting with his wife’s pastor.  He is a very serious and interesting seeker.  May the Lord grant us more opportunities to form a good relationship with him and wisdom to explain the truth to him in a way that he can comprehend God’s gospel and be saved.

Mr. and Mrs. Liang were introduced to our church through a colleague.  Since they live quite far away and often need to work over the weekend, they only come to church once in a while.  Over the years, we keep in contact and visit them from time to time.  Last week we visited them again at their office and found out that one of Mr. Liang’s close relatives just passed away.  They also mentioned to us that they were robbed a few days ago.  Fortunately, they were not hurt, but they were really shaken.  Therefore, we paid them another visit to their home the next day.  After being calmed down, their conversation turned into a request to know more about Christianity.  We suggested that we can come to have regular Bible lessons with them and explain the truth to them in more detail.  We praise the Lord for moving their hearts to want to know the gospel.  The first step in evangelism is to build friendships in order to gain mutual understanding.  They need to know that we truly care about them.  Only when we know their needs that we can show them how Jesus is THE answer for them.  We may need to wait a long time, but that will be all worth it.  Please pray for them that they can find time to start the Bible lessons, and may the Lord grant them understanding to grasp the essence of the gospel and be saved.

As we can only be in Cape Town during the latter part of each month, it is quite difficult to bond with our brothers and sisters in the church.  Last month, due to some adjustments to our other ministries, we were able to spend a whole month there.  The continuous contact and fellowship did pull us closer with each other.  Last month, a couple needed to return to China to take care of some personal business, they were in need of someone to take care of their home and rental property.  The two persons they had in mind had moved away, so they asked if we could help.  Actually we were not the best candidates; we live more than an-hour drive away, and we are not familiar with their town.  Since there were no other people they could trust as well as it was in such a short notice, we agreed to help.  After they left, one thing happened after another—the roof leaked, a tenant moved out, a new tenant needed to move in, the electricity meter was running out, etc.  They felt so indebted, and our relationship had since changed.  We “earned” the privilege of a respected counselor!  Due to our willingness to serve our brother, he felt our genuine concern for him.  He was willing to accept our advice.  The brother used to live an undisciplined life.  Ko-Ta suggested to him the various changes he could make, and he listened.  Now he is changing his diet, giving up bad habits, exercising and spending time reading the Bible.  Please pray for Brother Qian.  May the Lord strengthen him to persist in making these life changes in becoming a godly and disciplined follower of Christ.

Prayer Requests:

  1. Thank God that our dams are now at 53% capacity. Please pray for continued rainfall in Cape Town.
  2. Please pray for more missionaries to South Africa.
  3. Please pray for the seekers in our churches. Each one needs to face different issues.  May God work in their hearts to see their need for His salvation.  May the Lord give us wisdom to help them.
  4. Please pray for the three churches we serve and the co-workers in the churches as we can only spend a fraction of time in each church.
  5. Please continue to pray for our safety as we travel to different cities and towns.

In His service,
Ko-Ta & Christina
